And the ref was called Clough

And the ref was called Clough is a special publication that is a tribute not only to that FA Cup winning team of 1959 but also their club chairman at that time Harold Alcock who was critical to the club’s progress and his tenure coincided with their rise to the First Division and that splendid Cup triumph. His daughter Gillian has kindly donated scores of hitherto unseen photographs recording Forest’s FA Cup run, rare snapshots of the players and their wives in celebration of the Wembley triumph and dozens of action images from every round.

Welcome to Reid Publishing

A rummage through some old neglected boxes and memorabilia was the inspiration behind Reid Publishing and fittingly so.

Because among those faded and dust-laden contents lurked a letter and four truly evocative images from a young girl’s visit to Pipewood Camp in that distant but much cherished and lovingly lamented territory we call the past.

That one of our first ventures should reflect those images and embrace that nostalgia is no coincidence.

Based in Loughborough, Reid Publishing aims to promote local history, local topics and local authors with a diversity of opinion and imagery, relying on both the written and the visual to create splashes of colour amid the black and white words and portraits.

If some of the topics are parochial, community-driven and biased to this region, we make no apologies. If it appeals to broader tastes further away, certainly in some of the foreign fields to where many local folk have decamped and settled over the years, then all the better.

Inevitably the talent of its writers will determine the success of a book. And in Pipewood’s case and other potential projects, some of the contributors are certain to be the people who appear within those pages, both in words and images they captured on camera, relating their own unique and memorable recollections.

Please enjoy the publications. Not all of them will remember the past, but for those that do, they remain a tribute and testament to bygone days that should never be forgotten.

* Reid Publishing is eager to establish further links with local authors and encourage and promote fresh ideas and concepts both with fiction and non-fiction material. If you want to make contact, feel free to drop an e-mail to the address opposite.
